We’re a family run business producing high quality home grown haylage and hay on our farms in Aberdeenshire. We carefully harvest our grass to ensure that each bale guarantees the best quality.

We work hard to deliver consistency in our produce and carry out all the stages of haylage, hay and straw production on our land in order to guarantee a first-class product.

Our products

Haylage

Our haylage is high in fibre with good levels of protein and low in sugar, this is important for hoof, skin and immune system health. It comes from a grass crop that is cut and wilted in the same way as hay and baled a few days earlier.

Our big bales are typically 4’x4’ round bales and weighing 350-400 kg, they are multi-wrapped and stored until the mild fermentation process is complete, this creates a moist but dust free product.

Hay

Our hay is packed with natural goodness our hay is made from the finest Timothy, ryegrass, dwarf rye mix, creeping red fescue, smooth stock meadow grass and white clover, ensuring a weed free quality product suitable for equines.

Bales come in 4’x4’ rounds and are 300-350 kgs.

Straw

Our straw barley and wheat straw are baled in round or large Heston type square bales and can be supplied in large or small quantities.

FAQs

What is the difference between hay and haylage?

Moisture content is the main difference between hay and haylage. Haylage is preserved by its wrapping process which creates an anaerobic environment, that allows some level of fermentation to take place and this in turn prevents spoilage. Hay is barn stored and preserved through the drying process.

How should bales be stored?

It is safe for bales to be stored outside, however, they need to be kept away from vermin and avoid any tears in the wrap, a puncture can lead to quick deterioration of the haylage. Once opened it is best stored undercover.
